You look great. Hopefully you feel as good as you look. Ok, so it is true that losing weight will slim you down and take some inches off that waist. Yes, it is also true that the trimming of some weight will result in compliments from family, friends, and co-workers. But your motivation to lose weight and keep it off comes from within. There is no doubt that your appearance is important, but losing weight changes your life in more substantial ways. When changing your nutrition improves your health, you feel better and have more energy-which may lead you to wonder why anyone would ever choose to live off a diet of junk food. Butter and pastries taste good, but olive oil and whole grain breads taste good and nourish you from within. When you develop the habit of eating smaller portions of more nutritious foods, getting down to a healthy body weight will be easier.


The focus of this workshop is on weight management; the emphasis is placed on long-term solutions for weight loss. Eating healthy takes thought, planning, and, above all, patience. You may not lose weight as quickly as in a crash diet, but you will probably have a much greater sense of well-being. If you depend on fad diets and other quick fixes for weight loss, then you will find yourself following a yo-yo pattern of losing and gaining weight. Dropping some weight by eating nothing but grapefruits or red meat for a few weeks is a temporary solution; it does not change the overall eating habits that forced you to begin in the first place.
